Understanding the Borrower Application Process

Overview

A walkthrough of what borrowers experience when completing their HouseAmp application and the most common points where they may need your support.

Application Stages

Stage Details & Common Issues

1. Account Creation

Borrowers create their account, set a password, and verify their email.

Common Issues: Verification email in spam, password requirements, wrong email address.

2. Property Information

Property address, type, occupancy status, estimated home value, and outstanding mortgage balance.

Common Issues: Uncertainty on home value (remind them it's an estimate), unknown mortgage balance, confusion on property type.

3. Financial Information

Income, employment details, credit authorization, and debt information.

Common Issues: Credit check concerns (soft pull only), what income to include, self-employment questions.

4. Improvement Plans

Planned improvements, estimated costs, timeline, and contractor selection status.

Common Issues: Estimating costs (ranges are fine), deciding which improvements to include, contractor requirements.

5. Document Upload

Pay stubs and insurance information.

Common Issues: Upload errors, file size too large, wrong format, documents not readily available.

6. Application Submission

Borrower reviews all information, accepts terms, submits, and receives a confirmation email.

Common Issues: Wanting to change information after submission, questions about approval timeline and next steps.
